The bowls section was formed in 1915 when it was a railway club owned by LNER, later becoming Great Northern Athletic Association then British Rail Sports Association
1940 –1945, the main pavilion was used as war offices and the war office did not move out until 1948, but casual play continued during this time.
In 1994, when British Rail withdrew its financial support, it was renamed Holtwhites as our entrance was on Holtwhites Hill. We now have one of the best greens in Middlesex and are often asked to host matches and competitions for both the women’s and men’s County Associations.
We have some Middlesex County badged players and over the past few years we have had quite a few members playing at various County and National finals and we often have successes in local competitions. We are a totally mixed club with one committee many of our matches are mixed teams including a local mixed league.
We have had Middlesex County Presidents of both the men’s and women’s Associations, Tommy Lawford in 2001 and Maureen Lawford in 2003 and in 2009 we will have the President of North London Women’s BA., in Brenda Edwards.
We are a very happy club with a good mixture of roll-up bowlers and competitive bowlers who enter National, County and local competitions and whenever we play competitions there is always plenty of support from our members.
We will also be writing to three local schools, one primary and two secondary, offering coaching for youngsters, which we are very keen to encourage. We already have a few who receive coaching on a Saturday morning.
